Many commercial glass door locks that are 30–50 years old are starting to fail.
⚠️ The most common problem?
The bolt mechanism gives up because of rust and wear. The internal spring weakens, the bolt falls back down, and your door stays open even when it’s “locked.”
Many clients tell us:
👉 “I lock the door, but if someone jiggles it, the bolt drops and the door opens.”
This is very common on 1980’s storefront doors in Ville St-Laurent, Montreal, especially the older round deadlock bolt (7/8”) style.
📏 Common Commercial Glass Door Lock Sizes:
✔️ Deadlock bolt 31/32” (most common)
✔️ Deadlock bolt 1 1/8” (standard size)
✔️ Older round bolt 7/8”
✔️ Sliding door hook bolts 31/32” and 1 1/8”
✔️ Automatic handicap doors (newer buildings) use hook bolts
🚫 Important:
These locks CANNOT be repaired properly once the internal mechanism fails. They must be replaced with a new unit.
